TINES® Polyrail in the Flood Protection of the Nysa Kłodzka River Valley

As part of deliveries carried out for BUDIMEX S.A., we supplied a complete set of TINES® Polyrail products, which were used to fill expansion joints between reinforced concrete elements of the emergency spillway at the Topola Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir, under the contract entitled “Flood protection of the Nysa Kłodzka River valley”.

The TINES® Polyrail sealing system was selected for this project even though hydrotechnical applications are not among the typical areas of use for this technology. The system was tested and verified in practice in terms of the effectiveness of protecting the emergency spillway, and it shows strong potential for long-term and safe operation of a structure responsible for discharging excess floodwater.

TINES® Polyrail 50 was used to perform the sealing works. This material is distinguished by its ability to effectively fill narrow gaps, as well as by its high resistance to water and changing weather conditions. The product also offers very good adhesion to various substrates — in this case concrete and stone — forming durable, flexible joints capable of compensating for displacements resulting from the structural behaviour of the facility.

Before applying the sealing material, TINES® Polyrail 53+ was used as a primer to ensure proper preparation of moist substrates and increased peel strength under operational loads. This was a highly important criterion when selecting the product suitable for this application.

The elastic properties and unique formulation of TINES® Polyrail series products enable their reliable performance under variable dynamic loads, which is of key importance in hydrotechnical structures exposed to cyclic flow effects and water level fluctuations.
