TINES EBS System – the key solution in the renovation of the metro tunnel in Kyiv

Renovation of the Obłońsko-Teremkiw metro line tunnel in Kyiv was necessary due to its deteriorated technical condition. Built between 2008 and 2010 under challenging hydrogeological conditions, the structure began to crack and allow a significant amount of water and sand to penetrate, thereby threatening its stability.

According to representatives of Kyiv city, the cause of this problem was design errors, improper execution of construction works, the use of low-quality materials, and a lack of soil stabilization measures. Faced with these challenges, it became crucial to implement modern technologies that ensure the durability and safety of the infrastructure.

One of the main solutions employed during the renovation was the TINES® EBS LR 125-140 R50-LS system, which effectively protected the newly constructed track surface from vibrations generated by metro trains.

The investment implemented the TINES® EBS LR 125-140 R50-LS system, consisting of rail block supports in an elastomer sleeve (TINES® Polyrail). This proven solution provided effective electrical insulation for the rails, protecting against the harmful effects of stray currents. Crucially, by reducing vibrations, the solution not only improved travel comfort but also eliminated vibrations that could endanger the tunnel structure. Its durability and ease of maintenance significantly reduced operating costs.
