The TINES® TRAM integrated tram-road surface system received a distinction in the Prof. Jan Podoski competition, organized by the Chamber of Urban Transport.
The technology combines two system solutions from TINES®, designed for tram tracks:
- TINES® TRAM LC-L system,
- TINES® TRAM ERS Embedded Rail System.
The solution is designed for tram tracks shared with the roadway, allowing for the operation of mixed tram and vehicular traffic. It ensures comfort for rail and road vehicles using the same urban space, guaranteeing long-term structural durability. Additionally, it reduces vibration levels and noise emissions into the surroundings of the tram route. The TINES® TRAM integrated tram-road surface system provides protection against stray currents, maintenance of correct track width and rail cross slope, required static and dynamic stiffness, which significantly minimizes tram infrastructure maintenance costs. An important feature is the systematic drainage and waterproofing of the entire structural system, from the rail head to the subbase, eliminating the destructive effects of water on the track and road surfaces. Thanks to the use of prefabricated elements, system installation is simplified. In the TINES® TRAM integrated tram-road surface system, the TINES® TRAM LC-L track slab serves as the main load-bearing layer, shaping the track geometry. The rail channels in the TINES® TRAM LC-L prefabricated slabs are designed with dimensions adapted to the required rail profile, and their spacing depends on the required track gauge. The rails are mounted in the channels using a continuous fastening system, with bonded, continuous support and continuous rail fastening in the TINES® TRAM ERS system. This system involves securing the rails along their entire length in the rail channels using TINES® Polyrail 50/55 polyurethane elastomer, which forms a permanently elastic, uniform rail encapsulation, performing two key fastening functions: continuous elastic fastening and continuous elastic support of the rail foot. This solution absorbs loads from tram traffic and temperature changes in the rails, including vertical and horizontal forces, and transfers them to the main substructure (TINES® TRAM LC-L track slab). As a result, the TINES® TRAM ERS system effectively dampens vibrations and noise generated by tram movement on the track.
