In the era of increasing road and rail traffic, growing pressure on transportation efficiency and environmental protection, innovative solutions are key to the future of infrastructure. One of these solutions is prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs TINES® LC-L, which are used for the construction of integrated rail-road surfaces. In this article, we will take a closer look at the specifications of these slabs, their applications, and the advantages of using them.
Rail crossings are among the most demanding elements of railway infrastructure. Their construction must be robust and resistant to large loads, while ensuring safety for trains and vehicles traveling on the surface. For this purpose, various types of rail crossings are used, such as: level crossings, overhead crossings, tunnels, and viaducts. Each of them requires special construction solutions and building materials.
In the case of rail-road crossings, where the railway intersects with a road for cars, integrated surfacing is one of the most effective solutions. It involves using special concrete slabs that combine the road and rail surface into a single cohesive structure. This ensures a smooth transit of trains and cars, minimizing the risk of track damage and increasing safety for all road users.
Specifications of TINES® LC-L slabs
Prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs TINES® LC-L are standardly produced in dimensions:
- Width: 2.40 m
- Thickness: 0.40 m
- Length: 3.0 m (TINES® LC-L3), 4.0 m (TINES® LC-L4), 6.0 m (TINES® LC-L6)
The selection of slab dimensions depends on the geometric layout of the track where they will be applied. Integrated rail-road surfacing can be used on single or multiple tracks, on tracks of all classes with a width of 1435 mm or 1520 mm, with 49E1 and 60E1 rails. TINES® LC-L slabs can be used on straight sections and in curves with radii:
- R≥ 650 m for slabs 6 meters long (TINES®LC-L6)
- R≥ 300 m for slabs 4 meters long (TINES®LC-L4)
- R≥ 180 m for slabs 3 meters long (TINES®LC-L3)

Applications of TINES® LC-L slabs
Prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs TINES® LC-L, thanks to their advantages and versatility of use, find wide application in various railway and road infrastructure projects. Here are a few main applications of these slabs:
-
- Rail-road crossings: TINES® LC-L slabs are especially popular in the construction of integrated rail and road crossings. Due to their strength, durability, and even surface, they provide an excellent solution for such projects, ensuring safe and comfortable movement for both rail vehicles and cars.
- Rail-road intersections: TINES® LC-L slabs can also be used to facilitate traffic at rail-road intersections. In such cases, these slabs create a flat surface, minimizing the impact of railway tracks on the comfort of road vehicle rides.
- Renovation of existing crossings: TINES® LC-L slabs are an ideal solution for renovating existing rail crossings that require surface replacement or reinforcement. Due to their durability and resistance to loads, these slabs provide a long-lasting and efficient solution, contributing to improved ride comfort and safety.
