The 11th edition of the ProKolej conference, held on September 8, 2025, in Warsaw, was an excellent opportunity for exchanging experiences and discussing technical solutions at the interface of railway and road infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Tomasz Szuba, President of the Management Board of TINES Rail SA, presented integrated rail-road surface systems. Prefabricated track slabs with continuous and point rail fastening are two types of ballastless level crossing surfaces approved and categorized in the Technical Standards of PKP PLK SA (ST1 – T1, point 8 – ballastless track and in the annex ST1 – T10 to these Standards: Rail-Road Crossings).<\/p>\n
Over 5,000 meters of track on level crossings with the TINES\u00ae integrated rail-road surface system have been implemented on the PKP PLK network. Key advantages include:<\/p>\n
– Effective damping of noise and vibration caused by rail vehicles<\/p>\n
– Simple installation<\/p>\n
– Low maintenance costs.<\/p>\n
Operational tests were conducted in March and April 2024 on 20 level crossings to assess the system’s durability. The performed measurements and inspections of the surface condition of the selected 20 rail-road crossings showed that the TINES\u00ae integrated rail-road surface system constitutes a durable and stable structure of the railway and road surface at these crossings, ensuring long-term, failure-free operation of the track, even under conditions of intensive car and rail traffic.<\/p>\n
The durability of the TINES\u00ae integrated rail-road surface system is conditioned by proper preparation of the subgrade and drainage, the technology of slab installation, and the system of rail fastening in the boot, which should be performed by specialized companies to adhere to technological regimes. The use of the ballastless, integrated TINES\u00ae rail-road surface system ensures relatively low expenditure on maintenance work for this type of crossing structure compared to ballasted structures. Proper maintenance of the TINES\u00ae integrated rail-road surface system ensures a long service life.<\/p>\n
During the debate, the need for broad cooperation among experts from various sectors\u2014from manufacturers and designers to contractors, infrastructure managers, and supervisory services\u2014was emphasized to establish common standards for the design, execution, and operation of rail-road crossings.<\/p>\n
