{"id":4602,"date":"2025-05-08T07:10:15","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T09:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tinesrail.com\/en\/?p=4602"},"modified":"2025-07-11T06:34:52","modified_gmt":"2025-07-11T08:34:52","slug":"vibration-isolation-mats-in-railway-track-superstructures-a-tines-presentation-at-the-infraszyn-2025-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tinesrail.com\/en\/vibration-isolation-mats-in-railway-track-superstructures-a-tines-presentation-at-the-infraszyn-2025-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Vibration-isolation mats in railway track superstructures \u2013 a TINES presentation at the INFRASZYN 2025 conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The INFRASZYN 2025 conference, held on 23\u201325 April in Zakopane, was not only an industry gathering but, above all, a forum for meaningful discussion on responsible railway-infrastructure design.<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of the programme was a talk prepared by TINES experts <strong>Magdalena Bodzo\u0144<\/strong> and <strong>Micha\u0142 Rybacki<\/strong> entitled <strong>\u201cVibration-isolation mats in railway track structures \u2013 essential product characteristics and in-service properties.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With higher train speeds and more demanding operating conditions, modern railway infrastructure confronts investors, designers and contractors with numerous challenges related to limiting dynamic loads transmitted from the track to the subgrade and the surrounding environment. One of the key solutions for reducing vibration and noise is the use of vibration-isolation mats \u2013 specialised elements incorporated into the track structure.<\/p>\n<p>The performance of these mats depends largely on selecting suitable raw materials and processing methods. Crucial factors include the structure of polyurethane elastomers \u2013 their composition and a carefully controlled polymerisation process that determines static and dynamic stiffness, fatigue resistance and dimensional stability. An advanced example is <strong>TINES\u00ae Rubbermat<\/strong>, which combines SBR\/EPDM granulate with a polyurethane binder in precisely chosen fractions and proportions.<\/p>\n<p>Vibration-isolation mats can be classified according to various criteria \u2013 material, cross-sectional structure, manufacturing technology or production method \u2013 but the most fundamental classification relates to their field of application in different types of rail-track structures. Proven effectiveness hinges on choosing the right testing method and procedure, test conditions and appropriate material-assessment criteria for the intended use.<\/p>\n<p>Comprehensive testing procedures are set out in Polish standards that implement European norms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>PN-EN 17282:2021-03<\/strong> <em>Railway applications \u2013 Infrastructure \u2013 Ballast mats<\/em>, applicable to vibration-isolation mats installed under ballast in track structures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PN-EN 17682:2023-05<\/strong> <em>Railway applications \u2013 Infrastructure \u2013 Resilient element for floating slab systems (REFS)<\/em>, applicable to resilient elements in floating-slab tracks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, these documents do not specify the parameters governing the functions of resilient elements within the track superstructure; defining those parameters and selecting any optional tests is the purchaser\u2019s responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>Design practice and laboratory studies unequivocally show that effective vibration isolation in rail tracks requires products with well-defined, standardised material properties.
